Wellness Plan
Wellness
Smithville ISD's Health Services, Child Nutrition Department, School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), and Curriculum & Instruction Department work together to promote a healthy lifestyle through nutritious meals for the students of SISD, as well as health and wellness education. With healthy meals at school, we can encourage the start of a healthy life. We don't only provide meals for your children, we also help organize activities throughout the year. Some of our activities and curriculum that we use include:
CATCH
Farm Fresh Program
School Garden Program
Choose My Plate Program
Wellness & Safety Curriculums
CATCH - Coordinated Approach to Child Health: For over 30 years, the CATCH platform has been proven to launch kids and communities toward healthier lifestyles with its health education programs. CATCH Global Foundation is committed to making the many evidence-based CATCH health programs available to kids everywhere. See the CATCH Curriculum Map for details on what is covered in their programs.
Farm Fresh Program - We work with several local farmers to source fresh produce for use in our Child Nutrition Program.
School Garden Program - With the help community volunteers, we have gardens at every SISD campus and utilize the fresh-grown produce in our cafeterias. Students not only learn about making healthy food choices, but how to grow their own food!
We're helping your child grow up healthy by teaching them to build a healthy plate!
With Choose my plate, we encourage your child to choose everything from the line to ensure a nutritious plate. Here are some easy tips to start a healthier life:
Make half of your plate fruit and vegetables
Make at least half your grains whole
Switch to skim or 1% milk
Vary your protein food choices
Wellness & Safety Curriculums - Students are taught about wellness and safety using many different resources throughout the year.
