Smithville Independent School District Appoints New Athletic Director
Smithville, TX - March 7, 2024 - Smithville Independent School District (SISD) proudly announces the appointment of Mr. Layne Neumann as the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for the 2024-2025 school year. With an impressive history of athletic leadership, a commitment to excellence, Coach Neumann brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Coach Neumann's appointment comes after an extensive search process conducted by a panel of community members, SISD staff, and the SISD Board of Trustees, aimed at finding an individual with the vision, passion, and leadership qualities necessary to guide the district's athletic programs to new heights.
He has served in various coaching and administrative capacities over the past 15 years. From playing Texas high school football as a teen growing up in Hondo, TX, to playing collegiate football at Texas A&M University, to coaching state champions, Coach Neumann is no stranger to the world of athletics. His dedication to student-athlete development, and his love for teaching and impacting players on and off the field, aligns perfectly with SISD's commitment to fostering both athletic achievement and academic success. He and his wife, Kristin, along with their two sons, are looking forward to relocating to Smithville.
"I am honored and excited to join Smithville Independent School District as the new Athletic Director," said Coach Neumann. "I believe one of the greatest things about being a coach is that it is a family-oriented business. Coaching and relationships are very important to me, and this is why I became a Texas high school coach and educator. It is my goal to build this program into one that the student-athletes and community can be proud of."
As Athletic Director, Coach Neumann will oversee all aspects of the district's athletic programs, including scheduling, budgeting, and facility management, and will serve as head football coach for Smithville High School. Additionally, he will work closely with coaches, staff, and community stakeholders to ensure that Smithville's student-athletes receive the guidance and support they need to excel in their respective sports.
