Special Education in SISD
Special Education in SISD
In Smithville ISD, we are dedicated to working as a team to empower students with disabilities; to help them develop to their full potential now in order to prepare them for a future beyond SISD.
Special Education is not a destination; it is services and support for general education. Special education means specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability.
Special education services are provided to eligible students (3 to 21 years of age) who may have one or more of the following disabilities and an educational need that requires specially designed instruction and/or related services:
Auditory Impairment
Autism
Deaf-Blindness
Emotional Disturbance
Intellectual Disability
Multiple Disabilities
Non-Categorical Early Childhood
Orthopedic Impairment
Other Health Impairment
Specific Learning Disability
Speech or Language Impairment
Traumatic Brain Injury
Visual Impairment

The Special Education Information Center (SPEDTex) provides resources and interactive features for increasing family awareness of disabilities and special education processes, with the goal of improving partnerships between schools and families.
