Smithville ISD families received the following email communication this morning regarding a fake email threat that had been sent out to multiple districts:
Many schools around the State of Texas, including Smithville ISD, received threatening emails this morning from a supposed Russian terrorist group. No schools were specifically named in the threat. We immediately contacted Local law enforcement, who were in contact with State and Federal officials. It was determined early on that the email was not credible.
Out of an abundance of caution, SISD’s onsite safety officers are making extra rounds throughout the day. We are thankful for the added security already in place at SISD to ensure a safe environment for our children.
Smithville ISD continues to work with local law enforcement, and state and federal agencies, to continue to investigate the origin of the email.
The Smithville Police Department also released a statement regarding the incident.
