Happy World Teacher Day to all our SISD teachers!
Our Child Nutrition department joined the
@TexasDepartmentofAgriculture in the Farm
Fresh Challenge.
We plan
to serve more locally sourced food in
October.
Our students
will be enjoying fresh foods and
learning about Texas agriculture all this month!
This week we launched "Try It Thursday" and the students tried roasted purple potatoes! They enjoyed them!

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
#NSLW24 will be celebrated October 14-18, 2024.
October is National Principal Month and we want to take the opportunity to recognize our campus leaders for everything they do, starting with Principal Copeland! Tucker Copeland is the Principal at Smithville High School. He worked in the District as an Assistant Principal for two years, and is now in his 5th year at SHS as Principal! We wish him a very Happy Principal Month!
This month, we come together to shine a light on a critical issue: fentanyl poisoning. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid that has taken far too many lives. But together, we can make a difference.

September 23rd is Education Technology Day! On this day we celebrate the technology that helps students to learn better and teachers to teach better. We also recognize our wonderful IT department who keeps all our tech up-and-running! We couldn't get by without you!
We are looking forward to our next Student Advisory Committee meeting! Eight SHS students were chosen to be part of the Superintendent's advisory group to help bring fresh ideas and creative solutions to Smithville ISD. They will be meeting monthly and, in addition to helping Mrs. Burns problem-solve and being a voice for their peers, they will be testing new recipes for our Child Nutrition Department! 🤤
More from Celebrate Freedom Week! All grade levels learned about the American flag and the significance of each part of the flag...then they were able to create their own flags!
Don't forget that tomorrow, September 20th, is a Student Holiday and Staff Workday!

Ms. Holmes 1st grade class created patriotic artwork in honor of Constitution Day, and then drafted their own Classroom Constitution for all to sign!
In celebration of Constitution Day, our Juniors and Seniors were each given their own copy of the Constitution and took a deep dive into the meaning of each phrase and how it relates to our lives in 2024. Additionally, students read the Preamble and gave a quick history on the creation and importance of the US Constitution during the morning announcements.
